Wake Up The Echoes, 9/19/07

In this episode, our heroes (Gus, Aus, Bruce, Repair Kit, Taelith, Lucky, Tzuul, Neo, and Arma) encountered several teams that offered quite close matches. We played four games, and all of them were competitive. Victrix left the arena with a 3-1 record for the night. Many teams that we faced last night had familiar faces, containing either players that had guested for us recently, or that we are friends with, or that we.... aren't friends with. It felt very good to beat those teams

Demigod Disciples; Imperial Isle; Win

This team ran an interesting variation on the common blockway build, using a smited dervish and a channeling ritualist to achieve a quite potent spike. They also had a warrior that, while almost never contributing to the spike target, almost always was threatening to take advantage of the spike windows by KDing our backline or ambushing our Infuser. We held steady at the stand for a good amount of time before finally missing a few spikes. Mesmer domination spells hurt our backline alot, and we had few ways to stop them, so we had to fall back. We ended up building up quite a bit of DP on our monks. However, throughout the match we split into their base, and they did very little to stop us from wiping almost everything out. We secured some boosts before VoD to replenish morale and signets, and when VoD came we prevented them from annhilating our NPCs with a Splinter-Dervish by killing the Dervish repeatedly. From there, our NPC advantage, morale boosts, and triple warrior pressure were too much for them, and they wiped.

Crimson Reconcilement; Frozen Isle; Loss

We opened this match with Gus, Tae, and Tzuul splitting to the stand, and the rest of the team heading to the lever room. They were running blockway, and sent everyone to the lever room but quickly reorganized to fight us 5v5 and 3v3. Our 3 man team obliterated theirs, and our 5 man team held firm, but they sent additional people from the 5v5 to the 3v3. When we tried to compensate by sending a monk (me), I got snared on the Ice and was dropped when most of their team collapsed on me. This resulted in a slew of deaths and a retreat to base. For the rest of the game we continued to split successfully - they had no way to successfully 3v3 us - but we also lost NPCs in our own base to their main team. At VoD we had an NPC advantage so they charged our Lord to prevent it from walking. We countersplit to their Lord but it turned out not to matter, they dropped our monks after 20:00 and we had no signets left, gg. Close, though. We were a few mistakes away from winning this one.

Fame and Fortune; Imperial Isle; Win

Also running blockway, surprise surpise. We split into their base again and had success killing NPCs. Our defense was usually not challenged, but at certain times they did organize good pushes by dumping tons of domination on our monks while spiking - so we did take a few deaths. After clearing most of their base, we reformed 8v8, socred some kills, and pushed them back into their base. At VoD they tried to gank, but we easily stopped this attempt. Their Lord walked to the stand, where we killed it.

The Shattered Hand; Frozen Isle; Win

Anyone care to guess what this team was running? Yeah. More blockway. We opened with another 5/3 split, but for the first few minutes neither team was able to get anything accomplished. Eventually we got the right people in the right locations splitwise, and made progress on their NPCs. We also held firm at the stand and managed to harry their flag running enough to get a boost or two. At VoD they went for our Lord but we held them back while countersplitting. Both Lords walked to the stand, where our NPCs had won the battle with 3 archers and a bodyguard to spare. The final battle joined at the stand, where they quickly destroyed our archers with splinter weapon - but we defended our bodyguard well. Our pressure cracked them quickly, and we won a convincing victory.

Thanks for reading, and make sure to tune in next time for more action featuring your very own Servants of Fortuna Victrix! (Sorry, no sneak peeks at scenes from our next episode )

Congratulations on the winning record for the night Victrix and thanks as always for these writeups Neo. I'm just dissapointed that I didn't see any of the matches on observer when I did manage to finally hop on for the night. Even afterwards when I checked a couple of times I couldn't see any of the matches. Bleh...

Sounds good. Perhaps after Tor GVG (or during, if we don't get enough people).

Forgive the noob question but what is the definition of "blockway"?

Two Melee, usually Axe Warriors.
One paragon, usually with Defensive Anthem.
One Ranger with either Cripshot or Burning Arrow, always with Natural Stride.
One MoR Mesmer with Ward vs Melee.
One SoR Water Flag Runner with Blurred Vision.
An LoD / SoD backline, with at least 1 (usually 2) Aegis.

See if you can count the number of party-wide and AoE block spells.

There is so much blocking going on in battles lately perhaps we should call our game "Defense Wars". Whoever has the best defense wins...

Your sound links don't work, and you can't even open them in a new window to keep the forum up...

Just hit "No" on the menu that pops up, and then hit back to get back to the forum. I havent figured a smoother way to link music yet.

I don't get a 'no' option, it literally just changes links to the default/homepage of that site.

Link to youtube is generally the easiest way to get to music.

You included Blurred but no BSurge?
