Yet another old DoG

Hi guys. Like Luke said. Apparently size matters. And I think based on playing with you guys in GW1 (I even remember some names) plus the large number of former doggies migrating over here (and saying nice things) that SoF membership is my last best hope for in-game sanity. More into the PvP and WvW aspects of the game than i was in GW1, still not an uber tactician or anything. Hopefully Bunter will tell you I can follow orders really really well though.
Hopefully I will find enough of you repping to chat on line and let you get to know me again. It's been tough watching DoG slowly dwindle for no reason other than a change in game mechanics, and it's tougher finally accepting that reality and switching allegiance.
Blah. I'm rambling. Please let me in. I'm an ok player and really loyal. I'd like to see SoF become a mega guild that can survive a long time in the current game environment. cya in game.

Not that following Bunter's orders is always a good thing but nevertheless good to see you here.

Time to do this correctly. Been some time since I've applied for membership in anything. And I've always believed strong procedures make for a strong guild.

1. Why do you want to join SoF over other guilds?
Well, unless you've changed dramatically, your goals and sense of humor were a pretty good fit for me. I remember a good many of you from the gw1 alliance, and quite a few of my favorite DoGs have already found their way here. Mostly I liked that you guys take the game seriously but not yourselves. That's me in a nutshell (no snark please).

2. What is your age (or age range) and in which time zone do you live?
Really? Must I answer? I range from 40 to 80 years old, but mostly
I'm 63 and totally on the East coast.

3. What (online) gaming experience do you have?
Pretty much GW1 and GW2. A bit of HoMM back when.

4. How is your time distributed among different PvE, WvW, and PvP activities?
Since I've retired I've had time to explore all of them. I find PvE and WvW the most interesting, but then PvP has it's moments as well. Jon and Bunter have run me through some low level fractal and dungeon runs and that's really where I need to develope if I'm ever to become a complete human being.

5. What is your preferred profession/role? What do you like about it? What is your style of play?
Honestly, I love them all. The Guardian is the one I most need to improve on in terms of team support skills. I just need to get more large groups to practice on (need an evil cackle emoticon here). Got em all at 80 and play whichever depending on mood. Ranger is my primary WvW since I realized those skill points actually mean something.

6. What are your in-game character names? What are their levels?
Portia Rose, Attila Archimedes, Lucretia Attila, Lawyer for Foo Foo, Zephyr Attila, Boedica Attila, Mephisto Attila, Howie Zinn, and the Guardian who's name I can't recall atm. Did I mention my age range? And all at lvl 80.

7. Is Yak’s Bend your home world? If not, would you be willing to make it your home world?
Yes. And currently I have rage control issues with Magumans and Kainengs. But I'm getting better.

8. Have you contributed to the GW2 community through GW2 Wiki, Yaks Bend.com, or some other GW2 forum?
Nah. I tend to confine my yapping to my guild forum. I like to avoid Wiki if I can. I now have the luxury of exploring the game on it's own terms and just playing the game usually provides the info sooner or later, and I like being surprised. Now, if I were a high end player doing high level content, I know I'd have to scope out a particular dungeon or fractal level as best I could so as not to inconvenience my team mates with my ignorance. And should I ever find myself doing that stuff I will surely do my homework.

9. Where did you find out about SoF? Were you recommended by an existing member? Do you already know one or more members of our guild?
You guys were well known in gw1 and I know quite a few of your current members. Some of them may not admit to knowing me though. Looking at you Jon.

10. Tell us more about yourself and why you would be a good fit for SoF!!
I am a retired Air Traffic Control Equipment Specialist. Spent the last 10 years running the Radar Maintenance Dept. at NAS Norfolk. Been gaming since the early D&D days and had misplaced misgivings at the advent of auto mapping. Just seemed like there was something heroic about graph paper. For guys like me the arrival of computer based rpgs has been an ongoing blast. And for guys like me, GW in both it's manifestations is the best MMO for rpg folks. Really, it's just a huge sand box and I don't HAVE to do anything in particular. But the real attraction for me has always been the opportunity to play and chat on line with the same kinds of people I played D&D with back in the 60s. And from what I've seen over the years, you are those kind of people. And we don't have to hide in the garage while we play!

Hey Attila - great to see you here. Pull up a chair and relax, not for long though as there is some cleaning for you to do

Hey Attila,
Thanks for the reformatted application.

We're going to do our normal council deliberations while you do the normal forum pleasantries exchange. Will be back with you soon like.

Your friendly neighborhood black sheep in odd clothing,
Crash

There's a pleasantries exchange??? Sounds kind of mercenary. Bet it's run by Jon, and no I'm not cleaning it up.

Heya Attila,

It is my pleasure to inform you that the Council has reviewed your application and you have been progressed to Stage 2: In-Game Trialing.

Please add the councillors to your friends list so that you can contact us in-game. Our in-game names can be found in the guidelines for applicants thread. It is your responsibility to make contact with the councillors so that we can set up some trial runs in-game.

OK, the legal jargon is over. Let's meet up in game.

Have a great day!

On behalf of the council,
Bunter

Hurrah! Except for the part where my competence is subject to judgement. Looking forward to meeting you all again. Last night was a fun run, except for my vent issues. Thanks to the anonymous voice that suggested launching vent as admin. Cleared up the bad stuff. Still have level issues, but soon I will be l33t.

Don't let Vent make you feel not L33t. I had to work hard to get it to except my mic and "Yes, that is a mic, darn you!" back when I first started the program. Can't be a user thing, I like to blame vent

Congrats on second stage! Mayhaps we will trial together in this part!

(Shameless copy/paste from Azhura's thread

Hey Atilla! Was fun farming events with you and Azhura (and my son) for a while in Karkaland yesterday! Sorry we didn't do the vent thing, but sometimes my son can be a little shy with newcomers (yes, it's true, Bunter and Ano!! )

Looking forward to more adventures with you soon!

(It's not that I'm lazy, I'm just busy at work today...yeah...that's my story...)

That was a blast, and profitable too. Don't know why Ben would be shy. Capable Guardians are like the most popular kids in school.
