Bobrath's Application

Evening all,
Long time SoT lurker and very part time contributor. I'm looking to follow in the steps of other former Scouts in going from "just" SoFA to full on SoF. Spurred on by Velvet's suggestion in the guild bounty thread.
I do want to be upfront that my play time has been limited recently to the weekends. RL stuff (new job for wife, new school for kid, and so on) have cut into my ability to be on during the week. Hoping to get that changed around, but work/life/online balance is an ever changing equation!

Now to the questions:
1. Why do you want to join SoF over other guilds?
I already have some existing relationships built here and feel very comfortable with the focus and intent of the Servants.
2. What is your age (or age range) and in which timezone do you live? Are you willing to tell us more?
I'm 40 and live in Houston, TX - so central time zone.
3. What (online) gaming experience do you have?
I started out playing Tribes, moved up to Tribes 2 and was heavily competitive there, especially in the Siege sub game. A few of my team mates were talking about this other game Guild Wars coming out and it peaked my interest from my Diablo 2 days. I gave it a try and found it to be a blast. I joined up with Scouts of Tyria soon after starting in GW and have been playing GW (and now GW2) pretty much exclusively since - oh wait, I do dabble in random facebook games!
4. How is your time distributed among different PvE and PvP activities?
I focus mostly on PvE, with a few steps into WvWvW as the mood (or events) take me.
5. What is your preferred profession/role? What do you like about it? What is your style of play?
My primary in GW1 was a ranger and I really enjoyed the role of back row artillery and mid range enforcer. Moving into GW2, my primary is still a ranger, but the skill set differences have converted my play style to be a bit more front line. Currently running a glass cannon crit/prec pet build (based on Liru's). My other chars are still working their way up and are a guardian and ele. I'll probably roll up a necro and engineer in the future (but that could change).

I really prefer running a build that helps out and works with others, but I've struggled with the GW2 change which made it so easy to go from encounter to encounter and being able to "group" with whomever is in the area. I really miss the somewhat forced notion of grouping that GW1 gave to us - until it was skipped by expanded HnH builds of course.
6. What are your in-game names? What are their levels/where are they at?
Bob Rath - Ranger - 80
Beer Firebrand - Ele - 42
Zoe Rath - Guardian - 20
Beer Brawler, Beer Necessities - just holding those names from my GW1 days until I decide what to roll!
7. Have you contributed to the GW community through GuildWiki or some GW forum?
I used to post on the guildwarsguru forums espeically in the Ranger forums. Joined it back in 2005 and have 626 posts, course it has dropped off since I took up gw2 and didn't move over to guildwars2guru
8. Where did you find out about SoF? Were you recommended by an existing member? Do you already know one or more members of our guild or alliance?
Ano and Angel are two recent "converts" from SoT to SoF that I've known for quite a while.
Looking forward to the application process.
Bob

Yah, when I found out that GW1 had Swedish Chef as a language... I had a LOT of fun! Bork! Bork! Bork!

(though I will admit to Animal being a very close second place favorite muppet!)

Hello bobrath!

Thanks for posting your application (YES, I hooked another one! Muahahaha! )

Anyway...the Council has decided to progress you to Stage 2 - Trialling. If you are not already a guest member of SoF, please PM any Councillor in-game and they will send you an invite. We encourage you to participate in Guild Chat, and to join up with our members for activities in-game so that everyone can get to know you better!

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM any Councillor at any time.

Congratulations, and I hope to see you in-game soon!

On Behalf of the Council,
Velvet

I do a bit of both. But I do love my long bow. I really need to work on my skills though and where to put most of my point in. May have to buy another book...;/
Wish we could have 2 pets going at the same time. I just can't seem to give up my pet being my tank instead of healing orthers if need be....

Thanks for running around Diessa with me last night Epi. I don't think we were racing for fastest kill - but you've got some good power in that Ele build! As a side note, I appreciate you pointing out that well access to the skill point underground.

It still amazes me how many interesting parts of the game are hidden so well AND how folks find them - for instance the jumping puzzle in Lion's Arch that you access via a very hidden well.
