Victrix Match Report 10-15

Might as well do one of these, its been a while. Our Roster for the Victrix matches was Gus, Aus, Taelith, Zi, Lucky, Tzuul, Neo, and Kaitrin.

We Count Corpses; Weeping Stone; Win

Running some sort of balanced-ish build. They never really threatened to kill anything, and our spikes were able to go through consistently. They backed up to relieve pressure but were unable to right the ship, so they routed into base and resigned. They complained about how many snares we had.

We Hold Hands; Weeping Stone; Win

Running a build with an Assasin and many Fire Eles. They used Arcane Mimicry so each one could have SF and Ele Attunement. Their first spike went through on our mesmer because we were kinda asleep at the wheel, which made me sad. However, they didnt kill anything else all game and we beat them back systematically using a combination of spike and plain ol' beatdown. They also complained vigorously about how many snares we had.

Team Ne Va Da; Druids Isle; Loss

A pug with plenty of decent guests from Vibe, etc. They were running some sort of balanced-ish thing. We fought them 8v8 for about 5 minutes before breaking about 10 seconds before we were about to break them. Shame. Anyways, when we ressed we tried to bait them into our NPCs, which initially didnt work but they got bored and pushed in anyways. Several times we nearly broke them but they would barely escape. At VoD we faked a bridge gank and turned on them. However, we didnt get them in our bodyguard's range, and despite our flurry of initial kills, our DP showed as they fought back and wiped us. Sucked to lose so closely, but we gained some experience from it; so Im fairly sure we would handle these guys easier next time.

The Matzah Squad; Burning Isle; Loss

A team with a despicable signet mesmer and many assasins. We reacted well to their split and even split into their base occaisionally, so NPC losses were fairly even. We pushed their stand team fairly consistently while they very rarely were a threat to us. This was mostly because Zi was doing a great job on their Signet mesmer. We routed their team just before VoD and got 3 kills right after the res timer. How we managed to lose... well, lets just say it wont happen again. We tried for the quick kill by pushing into base, which we should have gotten if we'd played better/faster, but instead ended up getting ganked. In retrospect wiping their NPCs and defending the gank, and then escorting the Lord out, was the best/safest move.

Drunken Panda Scrubs; Wizards Isle; Win

Running some sort of balanced. We killed them 8v8 fairly steadily, and only became pushed once or twice. Some splitting happened both ways and we ended up stealing their repair kit and inflicting some DP. We eventually pushed them into base and killed many outlying NPCs. They came out at VoD and fought us at the stand despite their disadvantage, but died quickly.

The Final Thrust; Frozen Isle; Loss

This match played out kind of like a mirror of our last match against them. We fought full on at the center for about 5 minutes, until it became clear that we could kill them and they couldnt really kill us. For the rest of the game they split constantly and picked off NPCs in our base and secured several morale boosts to counteract the DP that we relatively steadily built on their team. At VoD their NPCs advantage was killer. We had chances all game and were in it even at the end, but could never really put the nail in the coffin of their stand team or reliably kill their splitters.

Oh well, next time I guess. Best 3-3 night I've ever had, tbh. If we play that way next time, minus the stupid mistakes, it'll be 6-0 with ease.

Mistakes happen. Its a part of getting better... as if you didn't know that though. Its always good to hear from you guys and know how things are going and what shape you're in. What a bummer to hear about the few close calls but, if nothing else, it proved monumental (maybe?) in the manner of what you need to do and what to expect if you come across these same teams again.

Thanks for the report and good luck to follow.

I knew Zi wouldn't be able to stay away from competitive PvP too long

Glad to hear it went so well (despite the losses)! keep up the good work

Now if there was just some logical way to convince him to become more active in the forums again...

Cookie, Zi?

6-0 for sure! Thanks for the reports Neo, I enjoy reading them alot and I hope you keep em coming! I may not know as much as I would like about GvG, but with the casual ones we've been having with DA I can tell you that it is alot easier to learn from losing than it is from winning. (And I'm talking from experience *winks at DA* )

Im afk for about 1/2 of every match, just to give the other team a sporting chance.

Are you still playing your 3 warriors build with water ele, BA ranger and rit/water runner?

We swapped some characters around slightly navis but we mainly played 2 warriors, 2 water eles (sometimes 1 water ele and 1 rit/ele), dom mesmer, BA (sometimes cripshot) ranger and 2 standard monks (1 LoD, 1 RC).

I watched the match against Final Thrust and you guys seemed to be hanging in there. The NPC advantage they had was crucial at VoD. Was that why you guys stormed their base just prior to VoD? To avoid having to deal with the NPC advantage they had?
