Healing Power, etc.

Well it's been a year since someone had anything to say so I thought I'd pose this question.

When designing a build is there any point on building it round, healing powers, vitality and toughness?

those 3 are only going to make you last longer but are not going to kill anything by themselves.

I don't think there is any reason in GW2 to "tank" (i.e. be a damage sponge) so those attributes seem rather pointless in increasing.

The only reason I can think of to increase them is for the traits, but does that out do the damage out put of other attributes?

what are peoples views.
